Inspired by a combination of the shape of Polynesian voyaging canoe sail shapes, drinking horns I saw in Iceland, and cornucopia from Ancient Greece, this piece came together.
Made from one piece of Jackfruit (yellow), one piece of Koa (middle), and one piece of Camphor (large one) I hand shaped these to as natural of a shape as I felt was right looking at pictures of the inspirations mentioned above.
As one of my first pieces made with hanging on the wall in mind, it was a bit more constricting on my mind creatively not having to worry about purpose, structural integrity, etc. A blank slate is sometimes way more intimidating when the art involves irreversible removal of beautiful wood. In the end, I thought they reminded me most of drinking horns and hung it in our welcoming area. Three cheers for friends!
